A class set of Ghost Boys will make a difference for my students' learning by providing another book resource that we can use for our ELA curriculum. This book can also make the difference in our kids by providing an SEL approach to teaching with the topics presented in the book. This book can encourage deeper conversations on relevant topics in today's world such as racism, gun violence, and more. The book is already being used from home through an audio version but having physical copies can help our diverse learners. This book directly correlates with our nonfiction unit in ELA and can also tie into SEL topics such as mental wellness and emotional wellness. In the light of one of the characters being shot by a police officer, this has opened the door to a lesson that includes student conversations on gun violence and police and racial divides in our country.
