I have found a wide range of books starting at the kindergarten level up to 2nd and 3rd grade chapter books. In my first grade class, I have a wide range of readers, all of which love to read, so they will be extremely excited to have a bunch of new books in their library! Many of these books include common sight words that they are currently learning in first grade, so they will be able to feel successful when they can read their books with ease.
All of these amazing new books will be great resources for my students to use in order to increase their reading abilities!
Although we are currently in distance learning, I send home new books with my students each week to practice reading and spark new interests with these books. They also can utilize these books to earn points through Accelerated Reader, which is a program that helps with their comprehension skills once they've read their book 2-3 times. They know that great readers read a book more than once to completely understand the story! My hope is that they will be excited to receive new books and want to read more and more each week. When they return to school for in-class learning, they will be able to walk over to our new amazing library and choose any book that they like. These books include the Clifford series, Cat in the Hat, Curious George, Elephant and Piggie, and Dog Man!. I can't wait for them to see all of these fun and exciting books!
