"Sit still" is a common, yet unreasonable expectation for many of our students. Research is increasingly showing that humans learn best and retain more when information is coupled with movement, art, or music. I am working toward offering flexible seating for my 3rd graders and have reached the end of my budget with video game chairs, bean bags and standing desks. What we would like now is to add wobble chairs, calming cushions and bouncy bands for use inside as well as bean bag games, balls and building toys to play with outside. As a result of this equipment, our students will be engaged in learning the real world skills of independence, problem-solving, and negotiation while establishing a view of themselves as capable of making choices.
