Last year we were thrust into the world of remote teaching due to the global pandemic. My 11th grade English course became a series of Zoom sessions and asynchronous work guided mostly by videos. What I discovered in my remote teaching sessions was that my students were hardly ever set up for success from the start. In the building, I can monitor the learning environment and ensure that students get the learning conditions they need to achieve success. However, so many of them spent our online meeting times surrounded by siblings or parents often working from home themselves. Many of my students struggled to stay properly dialed in to course content with so many distractions happening sometimes in the same room!
This project will help my students keep their focus on their schoolwork, especially at home. The pandemic has put us into a position where we need to be ready and able to change our norms on the fly. These headphones will allow my students, who may not be able to attend regular class meetings, to catch up with recordings on course content I've posted to reinforce homework and makeup work that will almost certainly become a regular experience in teaching in a world shifted by Covid-19. In donating to this project, you're making sure my students can turn off the background noise and tune in to my course.
