This project is to help me create a classroom library that can be used in person or virtually by my students for them to have access to books that are "windows and mirrors." I want books in my classroom that are written by and about people of color, people with different abilities, and picture women and men doing incredible things with their lives. I want them to see themselves in my books or be able to see others in a new light. My heart is for my students to find books in my room that inspire them!
I would also like to have flexible seating options in my classroom to accommodate the diverse group of learners that I have. Many students thrive when they can be in seating options that allow them to collaborate, or change positions, or be able to use their energy. I have include modular stools that can be used as seating or tables, as well as balance balls to help students be able to focus while we are learning.
I want students to be able to enter my classroom and find a spot they are comfortable learning and have a book in their hand that inspires them! My 4th graders are worthy of this environment and I am hopeful to provide that for them. Inspiring a love of books and reading is a HUGE part of my job and I hope that each of my students can find themselves in a book.
