Digital arts students need a traditional art foundation to build upon. Graphic design requires a level of drawing skill which translates very well from being able to control a pencil on paper properly to being able to control a mouse or drawing tablet on the computer for more accuracy. Game design students often sketch their ideas and concepts before ever creating them digitally, in creating characters and environments. Recording arts students can benefit from an artistic creative outlet to stimulate creativity when making music, they can also use art to represent their music in the form of a logo or album art. Film students create storyboards before they even begin the filming and editing process.
In addition to being an important learning tool, now more than ever it is crucial for our students to have a creative outlet. Living in uncertain times, away from friends, or any sense of normalcy, mental well-being is at risk. Creating and viewing art is proven to be a great stress release, boost self esteem, develop self awareness, and explore emotions. In conclusion, our students would greatly benefit from having an 鈥渁rt kit鈥 with rulers, pencils, and notebooks for learning and creative expression.
