Many of my student athletes that are playing basketball for me this year also have me as a science teacher. Our team is very new to the game compared to surrounding schools. We are at a title one school, so the majority of my players cannot afford to go out and buy a basketball to have at home. Not only would this allow them to practice dribbling, passing, and shooting at home, but it also gives them something safe to do outside with their friends. These basketballs would also allow our team to have virtual basketball practice if Covid-19 cases continue to rise, whereas right now, our players do not have their own basketballs and would not be able to practice outside of the school.
