Having virtual reality devices in the classroom will assist with projecting a layer of educational text and lesson-appropriate content on top of a student's actual surroundings, providing students with interactive and meaningful learning experiences. The virtual reality experience creates an entire digital environment, a 360-degree, immersive user experience that feels real. In this setting, students can interact with what they see as if they were really there.
In addition to providing students with immersive learning experiences, other benefits of virtual reality in education include the ability to inspire students’ creativity and spark their imaginations. This differentiation in instruction can motivate my students to also explore new academic interest. Furthermore, this would be a wonderful addition to assisting my students who have been diagnosed with ADHD, ODD, or ED because it will act as a calming mechanism when they feel themselves starting to get agitated or frustrated.
Lastly, the benefits of virtual reality in education go beyond academics as well to include cultural understanding, which will allow the student to understand and experience another person’s culture and values, so as they continue to grow and develop, they have a better grasp in dealing with diversity and inclusion.
All students deserve the opportunity to be exposed to a variety of technology and hands on learning and experiences that will help to propel their imagination, thinking, and creativity!
