Music is an interdisciplinary subject that connects students' learning to language, mathematics, science, history, and the other arts. Studies show that playing an instrument can help with focus, concentration, and creativity. Playing and enjoying music together is also a human socio-emotional activity, connecting us to ourselves in body, soul, and spirit, as well as connecting us to one another.
Giving my students ukuleles and percussion instruments will allow me to enhance my music lessons with hands-on activities where students can set goals to learn and master a new instrument, FEEL the music, and enjoy each other as a class, as they partake in making music together.
