I am requesting chair pockets, a laminator, book bins, a utility cart, an alphabet set and markers. Having kids' material well organized will save time, so we use our instructional and reading time with purpose. When kids have to move around the class to get the books and other materials they need, every one lost three to five minutes of instruction, which multiplied by 16 means between 48 and 60 minutes of lost instruction time.
We have enough books in the classroom but we need some storage bins so kids can easily access books on their levels, and so they can spend most of the time reading, not dealing with books to difficult for them to read.
Some of the items will also help me to have everything ready for them, so I can start my small group reading intervention as soon as the sit around the kidney table.
The laminator is for preserving and cleaning the learning centers, so kids can revisit the center to reinforce the learning as many times they need.
