I am a second year teacher for Mandarin Immersion Program and I do not have many Chinese books in my classroom. A picture is worth a thouand words. Books can be very powerful tools to help students visualize the meaning of the stories, to better understand Chinese culture and to apply the moral to real lives. The more Chinese books they read and listen, the more comfortable and confident they would be for their listening and vocabulary improving.
These books will not be used for learning from home directly because most parents do not speak Mandarin; however, I can record reading the book and email parents the clips.
