In an early childhood classroom, all of our materials are crucially important to help students learn. Visuals and kinesthetic materials provide many learning advantages. But since we are learning from home, it is hard for my students to have access to certain materials. Our curriculum studies offers such enriched learning tactics for literacy, math, science, fine motors, and gross motors.
Here are some of the manipulatives that I selected that are useful in Math and Literacy. For math; counting bears, unit blocks, links, playdough, and writing materials. These help with their number concepts and operations. For example, counting, quantifies, connects numerals with their quantities, number recognition and understanding shapes. The manipulatives that I selected for literacy are: journal books, a variety of writing materials, letter cards with pictures for decoding sounds, books. These are very useful to help them with learning the alphabet, knowledge of print and its uses, emergent reading and writing skills.
Last but not least these materials will enhance their gross-motor manipulative skills and fine-motor strength. I don't know how long we will continue to learn virtually, but in the mean time I want to provide my students with the most enriched, engaging learning experience possible.
