Montessori curriculum and practices are a tried-and-true teaching methodology developed by Maria Montessori. Our Montessori School opened this last school year and is a growing school. As we grow and continue to learn about the populations we serve, we are finding needs we would like to help our students meet. In the case of this project, we have found need for additional and/or differentiated materials for our students with learning differences.
By supporting this project, you will be allowing my students to find even greater success in accessing the curriculum and learning environments. With the ability to access some alternative materials, our students may become less satiated as they will not have to use the same material to learn the same concept each day. For instance, the gel filled letters and wooden tracing boards will allow students to gain two different sensorial feelings when working on letter recognition and formation. Students will be able to utilize the various letter learning materials to not only gain different sensorial inputs, but to show generalization of the skills they have learned. These opportunities to gain different sensorial inputs and show generalization will allow students to make greater academic, and even social emotional, gains through differentiation and increase engagement in learning.
