This year, I've witnessed the impact distance learning and isolation can have on a child. However, consistent access to technology has helped my students develop a new sense of independence and passion for subjects they normally may not have had as much exposure to. I've seen how technology can be used as a tool to enrich and excite education for these young minds searching for new challenges. I am requesting four laptops for our classroom to further enrich my students' learning.
Currently, my school of nearly 500 students must share a set of heavily damaged Chromebooks to gain access to technology. I try to plan computer science, math, and literacy lessons for my students, but it may end up being another month before our next chance to use computers because of the high demand. Many of my families don't have a computer at home, so it is a very empowering and uplifting experience for my students to access their own computer in the classroom.
Having a small set of computers for my students will allow me to further differentiate my lessons and materials, especially for historically lower achieving students or those with special needs. These laptops will allow my students to engage in independent practice and activities that will motivate them to practice the skills they need to succeed.
