One of my greatest strengths as an educator is my ability to model my thinking, writing, and reading skills aloud for my students. No matter what level learner I teach, I teach students the power of metacognition. Knowing how we think helps us own our education and our knowledge, and most importantly enables our best learning to occur.
Often, students don't know how to begin, proceed, or end a project because they don't know what it looks like to see thinking in action. They don't realize that products take multiple drafts to get right. The materials on this list, especially the document camera, will help me teach students how to work through a problem/task without fear. With the camera, I can work along with my students, providing the reassurance of a working model and showing them that I am as much a participant in the learning process as they are.
