My goal is to cultivate a love for reading among my students. They are encouraged to read for at least 30 minutes per day and some find difficulty in this as they haven't found their passion. I want to build a bigger classroom library and bring in more graphic novels (which is currently my most requested item)!
I have found that my 5th graders also LOVE picture books. And, I like finding new and exciting ways to reach them, while teaching grammar concepts and writing. Using picture books as mentor texts, allowing for me to embed the lesson in their engagement.
The stamps will be used in a variety of ways for the students to practice their vocabulary words.
Lastly, the magazines will be great to use in and out of school (during virtual and hybrid teaching). They are lightweight and won't weigh their backpacks down any heavier, allow for a different type of text to be explored, while teaching writing standards! Win win!
