This school year has presented itself to be challenging in many ways due to COVID-19. Now that we are back in our classroom we have many restrictions to follow while we are staying safe and learning. Our classroom looks very different since we can not gather on a carpet, meet for small groups or move about freely. First graders are very active learners and our current restrictions prevents students from moving in the classroom. Students remain at their seats all day (including lunch) except for bathroom breaks and a 30 minute recess. My first graders are very energetic and like to move. The restrictions cause the students to become less alert or wanting to frequently escape to the bathroom.
By providing my students with flexible seating such as the wobble stools or bouncy balls/seats the students will have the option to move around and get their wiggles out all while still paying attention and being engaged in our daily lessons.
