Using flexible seating, both in an individual and collaborative setting, will help promote the learning of L.9-10.1 Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking and L.9-10.3 Apply knowledge of language to understand how language functions in different contexts, to make effective choices for meaning or style, and to comprehend more fully when reading or listening.
Both of these content standards focus on listening as well as speaking as it relates to ELA, which can be scaffolded in the resource room from individual to small group to whole group with the use of flexible seating.
Flexible seating also fulfills the need to create a safe space with adequate social distancing, while allowing students the opportunity to connect with their peers during learning times.
