I am passionate about getting kids to fall in love with books. I want to instill in each of my students a deep appreciation for literature so that they will become lifelong readers. My goal is to have a classroom library filled with books that allow each child to see themselves in the stories of diverse characters. In particular, I seek out books by and about people of color, the LGBTQI experience, and characters experiencing socioeconomic difficulties and other struggles in life.
It is my greatest hope that each child entering my classroom will find books that touch them deeply, that make them reflect on their lives and their place in this world, and inspire them to be their very best selves. Reading powerful literature can truly be life-changing. Opportunities to read and discuss a diverse array of books can help students become critical thinkers, lifelong learners, and compassionate and empathetic community members.
