This year I would love to provide my students with their own copy of the novel we read each year, 鈥淩ed Kayak鈥. It has been a favorite of students for years and while we normally read together in class, this year we need to read at home. This novel by American author Priscilla Cummings, tells the story of Brady, a teenager who lives on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Brady feels partially responsible for the death of a three-year-old, and students empathize with Brady as he struggles with the moral dilemma of whether to tell others the truth he uncovers about the death. Red Kayak is the first in a series of three books, that our students scramble to read.
