Having access to these titles in the classroom will provide many students with independent reading books that would not normally have access to at home. It allows us to really delve into student reading interest because there is time to look through books and try them out.
Independent reading sparks meaningful discussion among the students and helps build their worldview. Students start to learn that there really is something out there they find interesting to read! Independent reading time allows students the "try books out" in a low risk environment.
