Covid-19 has been an unexpected nightmare for many people all over the world. In March we were forced to separate from our students and school community. As time progressed, another school year began and I had to meet my new students virtually. Due to health conditions, I have to teach from home. My laptop is older and started to give out more and more each day. I had to restart it during some lessons because my microphone and camera would refuse to work. There were also times where my slideshows would not show or my screen share would not work. Then I asked to borrow one from work and even that one gave me problems.
I refused to let my students down and had to resort to using my cellphone to continue with instruction and show them what I have taught them, always try different strategies when solving a problem. With the different lessons that I have been teaching through fables, fiction, and informational texts, we are always learning something. I needed them to see first hand that even teachers have to figure things out. Teachers are life long learners and sometimes need help too.
With a new device teaching and most importantly connecting with my students will be so much easier. Having the ability for them to connect with me and learn despite the era of this pandemic means so much. My laptop is my lifeline with my students. This device is their lifeline not only to their education but also their future.
