A major goal of my teaching is to help my students fall in love with reading and the magic that can be learned from the pages of a book. That task becomes much harder when students do not see themselves represented in the stories they are reading. Since I am a new teacher, my classroom library is still in need of books that represents all people, cultures, and stories. The inclusion of these books in my classroom will enrich my students in the incredible stories that can be learned by some of our world's most influential people including Malala Yousafzai, Jackie Robinson, Helen Keller, Ruby Bridges, and Albert Einstein, to name a few. It will also include some of the incredible adventures taken by fictional characters in series such as "The Magic Tree House".
With these books, my students will be able to take ownership of their learning by making book choices that fulfill their interests and connect to some of their own experiences. My students have already shown interest in some of these influential people centered in these books, so this project will help meet the needs of their curiosities.
