My speech and language students make gains each and every day they attend therapy. Whether they are increasing their verbal or nonverbal communication skills, or comprehension skills, we are working on helping them have the communication skills they need in order to access their curriculum. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, my therapy sessions have had to change and we can no long sit a table together interacting doing fun games. We now have to be 6 feet apart with each student at their own desk. I currently do not have a smart board and any way to to make my digital files projected or larger for whole group interaction. My next thought was that I could have individual tablets so that we can do BOOM cards together or other language/articulation games in conjunction with the therapy instruction. It has become very costly and time consuming for me to have to consistently print out individual sheets for all of my students. My students deserve to have these experiences just like they did during the previous years (almost the same :) ). This can be attained through the use of tablets.
Also, teaching social skills has been harder over Zoom as well as face to face. A subscription to Everyday Speech will help with this facilitation of carryover so that my students are successful. This website has video modeling, worksheets, and interactive activities to for them to gain these crucial skills so that they can continue to be successful academically.
