Bringing the recorder to my third grade students will provide them with a meaningful and memorable experience! It will also positively impact students' brain development in ways that are not achieved in other classes. Kind of like a green smoothie...it's so sweet, you can't taste the kale, but everything in it is benefiting you!
Neuroscientists have determined that playing an instrument engages more parts of the brain simultaneously than any other activity. The visual, auditory and motor cortices are engaged and strengthened, as well as the ability to plan, strategize and pay attention to detail. All qualities that then get applied to the other things the kids do. Playing an instrument is truly a "full body workout for the brain."
My students will play the recorder in class at home, via our online platform. They will learn songs and create recording projects that will allow them to hear each other play together. They will carry their recorder around with them and perform for their families. They will make memories that will last a lifetime.
