Being an educator is more than teaching students important academic skills. Educators are also key in teaching students social skills that include self-control, mindfulness, & empathy. My belief “awareness of HOW to play in a sandbox” is an essential gift that every child deserves. Studies have shown that students participating in school curriculums that focus on emotional intelligence have lower delinquency rates, lower arrests, & lower uses of health & mental health services. These same studies show that academic skills, while still very important for future success, have less of an impact on crime & delinquency rates.
As an educator for several years seeing studies like this ring loud & clear-- I feel an urgent need to learn effective strategies that will help students, parents, teachers, etc. in schools & mental health facilities: Learning how to be the best humans they can be, for themselves. Learning wellness tools like mindfulness & yoga empower students to love, take care of, & advocate for themselves. These tools help our students, & families cope with trauma, addiction, unexpected life situations, etc.
Breathe For Change (B4C) training program will help me enrich my awareness about mindfulness. This program will also enable me to share the positive changes I've experienced with future students, educators, families, & my community.
B4C is a wellness training program created by educators for educators. Upon graduation from B4C, I will be certified to lead wellness & social-emotional learning programs in schools and communities. Additionally, I will earn a nationally recognized RYT-200 yoga teacher certification, & CASEL accredited. This 3-month program enhances the well-being of educators, students, & greater school communities by training educators in meaningful areas of meditation, philosophy, anatomy, social-emotional strategy, & yoga practice.
Your help will help realise a goal I am very passionate about.
