Many children with autism and other developmental delays have sensory challenges that make it difficult for them to regulate their bodies. Using a weighted blanket or lap pad can be very calming and can help them focus on work or relax for naptime. Due to limited supplies, we currently only have access to two weighted blankets, which leaves most of my students without the sensory input they need. Also, most commercially made weighted blankets can not be washed, which can be a real problem in a preschool class. These materials will help me create a class set of weighted blankets and lap pads, so that each student can have one to use when they need it. These weighted pellets are also machine washable and dryable, so they can easily be kept clean and hygienic (even when accidents happen).
