According to the BooksSpring, "37% of children arrive at kindergarten without the skills necessary for lifetime learning." Language exposure in Kindergarten helps found the necessary tools for student success in literacy. Working in a low-income school, it is challenging to find resources to meet my students needs. I am requesting funding for this curriculum, to better assist my students in their ability to manipulate, blend, segment, and isolate sounds, which translates to higher comprehension auditorily, spelling, and reading challenging words.
I want my all of my students to be given the opportunity through this curriculum, to develop and master the foundations of phonemic awareness bestowed in Kindergarten. I want my students to be able to recognize a given sound and know what it represents auditorily and visually. I want my students to feel confident in their reading, especially when they come across an unknown word to them. I want to provide as much resource and tools available, especially with the limitations distance learning is causing. This can be taught in small groups, whole, or one-on-one. As Kindergarten is such a foundational grade, I want my students to leave my class, feeling well prepared with as many tools in literacy as I continue to provide. I believe I will increase their foundation with the use of this amazing curriculum!
