Students learn best when they are in the right mindset and mood for learning. Because my kids are very young, some nonverbal, and are still learning how to recognize and identify their emotions, they need to be taught how to regulate and calm themselves independently.
To have a space where they can feel safe knowing that feeling happy, angry, or sad is very important especially for my students with high needs. The mats will be used when they need to take a breather and rest, especially right after lunch when they are exhausted from recess and play time.
The materials for my first project will be very useful for my class and I am excited how it will help my students learn more about themselves and learn that rest is an essential part of learning.
