Overall, im sure we can all agree that Distance Learning has posed a lot of challenges; however, the biggest challenge has been getting students fully immersed in the learning experience. As a 10 year saxophone player, I have seen the immense benefits that music has played in my life. I learned how to play the recorder in 4th grade, and im certain that it planted the seed for me to be lifelong lover of music. After sharing this with my students they have all shown or expressed an interest in learning how to play music, which propelled me to try and create a recorder program at my school!
A lot of my students have a hard time finding the current curriculum hard to work with due to the current pandemic, and I am sure that a lot of them are feeling a little discouraged with how the year is going. Music on the other hand, is a skill that all students can develop and the cognitive benefits are immense! Music uplifts spirits and challenges students in healthy way. What better way to connect with our students than by bringing back the arts!
