I will be putting all my students in small groups. These groups will have the ability to choose their own novel to read. The groups will work collaboratively to read, work on literature standards, and explore each novel.
This is a great way for students to be able to work together and pick novels that are interesting to them. I also chose books that represent different historical time periods and cultures that might not be familiar to my students. I chose books that examine many different experiences and cultures.
I will give groups specific tasks while they read and students will learn things like: annotation, theme, character development, plot development, etc. They will also get the chance to work with other students and create projects together.
