Reading is fundamental. Every day I read to my students rather its for teaching a particular reading skill or reading for pleasure. I want to build a classroom library that shows characters similiar to them. The reading curriculum that is implemented in my school districts shows pictures of Caucasian decent. The majority, if not all of my students, are African American. I want to them have a books and images that they can relate to. This project is a great start to allow for my students to gain a love for literacy.
