Each child should be given the opportunity to read books that are on their reading level. In my classroom, my students' reading levels vary. Having books that are on their level will encourage even my struggling readers to keep trying, and to keep reading. I believe that the more they read, the better they will get over time. Each student should be able to get a book and feel good enough to read it.
Some of the books I have requested talk about important things like friendship, compassion, and other themes that are very important for children of all ages to learn about. These books can start positive discussions, projects, and even lessons throughout the year. These topics can even be brought into the real world and outside of the classroom.
