High school students are faced with several obstacles when it comes to fulfilling the dream of attending college. I have always strived to have my students prepared for the rigors of college writing. With E-learning, the ability for my students to get the instruction needed to write, research, and read for college has been a struggle. My attempts to deliver whole group instruction and differentiate my lessons to address various learning styles has been difficult with the resources I currently have.
E-Learning is 10 times the amount of work with 1/3 the success which hinders my abilities to help my students get college ready.
Part of having my students prepared for college is the process of writing a research paper with a video attachment. Their research paper is based on literature read in class linking it to today's society. Students research topics of interest to them and send me the research topic along with a video abstract of the paper. I download the attachments and review the topics for approval and suggestions for the students. Then the students work on the research paper. They must have 25 credible resources (at least 1 video), 5 in text citations and 10 pages typed in format.
Having the right technology will help me keep up with students at school and at home. Having a laptop that can quickly access multiple research sites to assist students in gaining information, helps me teach more in my limited class time. Teaching them individually is tough since I have difficulties opening multiple video chats during class. The added storage will enable me to keep submitted work that contains heavy amounts of digital media sources, so I have access to student work from home. My students deserve the best from me.
