Being a Language Arts teacher to students in grades four, five, and six, one of my goals is to inspire a love of reading in them. Students want and need to be able to see themselves in the texts they read. Unfortunately, many of the texts available in my school are either not relatable to my students or are not on their reading level. I want to acquire some current, culturally sensitive novels that are at an appropriate reading level to be able to read with my students. I look forward to sharing these books and collaborating with partner teachers and other classes in my building. To quote Barack Obama, "Reading is the gateway skill that makes all other learning possible."
