Flexible Seating in the classroom fosters learning. Not only do students get a choice whether to use a wobble seat versus a standard chair, but they also get to have fun while learning.
Wobble seats offer health benefits, engage students, and provide a sense of focus during instruction or work time.
There are many health benefits to using wobble seats versus a standard chair. Wobble seats strengthen and rehydrates the spine, increases cerebral-spinal fluid pressure and flow, help oxygen exchange, clear the lungs, raise blood pH, massages the heart, and increases blood flow back to the heart.
Wobble seats engage students. When students are sitting in a standard chair with eyes glued to the teacher or the board, they start to get glazed. Meaning, their eyes are glazing over and they are tuning out whoever is talking. With the wobble seat, they are able to move their body and get the blood pumping and get oxygen to their brain. That way, they stay engaged and actively participate in lessons.
Some students have a hard time focusing during lessons or work time. They may feel like they need to move their body or be fidgeting with their hands. With wobble seats, students can slowly shift their weight in a figure 8 motion. While doing this subconsciously, they can focus on their learning.
