Children learn in a variety of ways and supporting their strengths and interests allows them to engage more easily. To do this, I attempt to make every lesson or activity as multi-sensory as possible. Examples of such activities include using both visual and auditory cues, and/or creating opportunities for tactile experiences using materials that are fun and engaging. This is particularly important in a classroom such as mine, and becomes even more important when participating in remote learning.
This is why having the ability to purchase materials and create activities that address the students’ goals while allowing parents and guardians to seamlessly and easily play a supporting role, is critical. These activities and materials will target academic, social-emotional, attention, behavior, sensory and communication goals.
An additional goal of this project is to ensure that in the event students are not in school, pre-packaged activities that target these goals can be sent home allowing more opportunity for practice. Funds from this grant will allow for the purchase of supplies needed such as, different types of paper, Velcro, magnets, markers, glue, a variety of manipulatives, access to Interactive Teacher-Pay-Teacher lessons, books and much more. Having access to these concrete materials will enhance learning allowing my students more opportunities to achieve their goals regardless of their location.
