In grades 3-5 we are learning to read the notes on the treble clef. This will prepare them for middle school when they will begin to play orchestral and band instruments.
The big piano floor mat will be the perfect instrument to help my students connect the notes on the staff to the notes on an instrument. Each note is a specific color which coordinates with the boomwhaker set, instruments in which they are already familiar.
In this age of social distancing and having to sanitize instruments constantly, these mats are played with your feet and not your hands. They will be able to step and dance on the the mat to create and play songs. It will be a perfect way to safely play an instrument together.
