Working for a low-income school district, books are not a priority for many of my students' household. Most don't have personal books to read at home, and given the pandemic, they don't have library books they can take home to read either.
However, students have used the cards they were dealt to read many books online. Currently, our class has read over 600 books using online resources!! I am doing this project to reward them with their own books that they can take home and read as much as they want. Also, I'm hoping this will be the first book of many as they grow their libraries at home one book at a time.
