All of my students need additional social emotional support in standard classrooms. Providing various tools to use in their classrooms will help individualize social emotional support to provide them with a better chance of success. Wiggle seats and wiggle cushions for feet and chairs will allow students to get some much needed movement out without disrupting the learning of other students. Various fidgets will provide the same type of stimulation without leading to disruptive behaviors that can be disheartening to their ability to succeed in class.
It's so easy to focus on the bad when you're a kid that I want to help them find something good to focus on to outshine the bad; these tools can help them find a light in the darkness. Providing them with stimulating rewards such as kinetic sand to play with or various coloring books to choose from can really be the best part of their day.
Using various social emotional learning games in our social skills groups will help my students learn the many social skills they need to be successful in school. The games will help them obtain the social skills concepts quicker and maintain them longer as they will learn them through fun activities. These tools can make school fun and enjoyable for them, a place of safety and love, and provide them with what they need to reach their goals in school.
