My main focus each year when designing my classroom space is to keep it open for my students to leave their mark. I want students to have access to materials and safe spaces so their classroom feels interactive, fun, and comfortable. I use clear bins for STEM centers and morning tubs for students to express and learn vital social skills while interacting with their peers. Students use the materials in the bins to imagine, create, and explore through building and playing. The pocket chart will help with management of the STEM bins so students are empowered to use the bins independently.
I want students to constantly be involved in their learning and interact with my instruction so I use whiteboards as a high engagement strategy. I use them more than any other learning tool in my classroom. I also use it as a formative check with students by gaining real time data to move my teaching practice forward by being responsive to what I observe.
Flexible seating is something I am exploring my classroom so support a flexible and interactive environment for my students. The chairs requested here will be helping build a collection of a more student centered approach through flexible seating.
