These tablets will be used to enhance reading instruction to students with disabilities and English language learners. The tablets will be used to give the students access to text-to-speech technology, so they can improve their reading skills. As a teacher, I have access to instructional technologies (LearningAlly and myON) that can help my ELLs and SWDs better access the reading curriculum. However, the majority of my students' families do not have the resources to provide the necessary technology for their children.
I plan to use the ten tablets to provide small group reading intervention to students. I will be incorporating the use of digital libraries that embed the use of text-to-speech technology. I expect that the regular use of this technology will help my students bridge the gap in reading achievement.
