Students come into my class from various situations that are beyond them. They enter my class each day ready to learn, ready to meet expectations, and have a day soaking in all of the knowledge that they can. Some come to school without having a decent meal the night before and in some cases days (considering weekends). Many of them depend on the small portions provided by the school. However, it is evident that this is not enough as I watch them content with growling stomachs while trying to focus.
Having additional snacks and food available would provide students access satisfying their hunger to make it through extended days.
Students will know that there is a place where they can go for food or a snack to help them along with their day in and outside of our classroom.
