Although this garden project will take place at school, many of my students value our school like a home. It's a safe place and an inclusive "home" that many don't have. I teach English and reading, but I know that the subject matter is completely irrelevant. Students at a non-traditional high school come to school for validation, appreciation, and acceptance. They want to feel included and accepted in their space. I have reaffirmed this year that the key to anyone doing well and feeling accomplished is that relationships and environment count.
