My students are a very hands on group, they need to feel the book in their hands to stay engaged. Using the first novel of the Harry Potter series I am looking to get students to read larger and more challenging novels. I will have my students work on their persuasive writing skills after reading the book and watching the movie, they will write a five paragraph essay defending which is better, the movie or the novel citing text and movie evidence. Then we will create a mock debate to present both sides to a teacher panel for the ultimate decision! After all this fun I hope to encourage students to continue reading the series.
