Since starting an incentive program to make help students come to school whether in person or remotely, we have noticed that attendance has gone up. Our families are hardworking and must go out in the world to support their families and because of this, sometimes they are not able to get their children logged in to go to school, find daycare when quarantining or bring them to school with all the confusing constrictions.
We are doing all we can to make sure school is where our students want to be. We noticed that when students are excited to come to school in these difficult times parents work harder to find a way to make it happen.
Every week we recognize 3 students who have come to school and worked hard all week without missing a day in our weekly community meeting which is live-streamed into classrooms and to students at home. We give these students a "shout-out" and a small educational or fun gift for making the effort to do the hard work during these difficult times. Project items include lip balm, paper airplane kits, and LEGO building kits.
