If you like making a cake from scratch, then you will understand how chemistry is like baking. Mixing the precise ingredients (reactants in chemistry class) together to make a cake (product) is exciting and completely transfers application to synthesis (Bloom's).
With the TI-30XIIS calculators, my students be able to calculate with specificity as they demonstrate their knowledge in the chemistry labs or on classroom assignments. They will have the ability to scroll back and check entries which is practically required for guided practice in both Chemistry and Physical Science. The durability of the device is well known and the lack of games or programmable features reduces the device from a toy to a tool. Storage is limited, thus reducing cheating options. Therefore, these devices will be allowed for home use as students complete assignments to sharpen their skills in stoichiometry.
It is not uncommon to hear "chem" students refer back to "stoich" when making career choices in engineering and medicine. Using the skills learned in Physical Science and Chemistry when calculating precise measurements could be used to make new products like deodorants to candy or even to create new medications that will eliminate viral infections. Help me open the minds of our future scientists by providing the much needed calculators for my students.
