Physical activity is a crucial part of a child's development and overall well being. Children are more likely to be active later in life when they have fun and positive experiences at a young age. PLAY is a child's exercise and it is important for the school setting to provide exposure to a variety of skills and lifetime sports. Multi-purpose balls will be used for several game activities and skill development including throwing, catching, rolling, dribbling, striking, kicking, and trapping.
Pickleball is becoming a very popular sport in our tri-state area, primarily because people of all ages and abilities can participate and it can be enjoyed by the whole family. New outdoor pickleball and tennis courts were just constructed in the area and there are several opportunities for indoor play at the local gyms and athletic facilities. Because pickleball requires some unique equipment (nets, paddles, and special balls), I believe that providing the opportunity to explore racquet skills at school will generate excitement for this growing sport. If they have experience, students will be more likely to pursue not only pickleball, but other lifetime sports such as tennis or badminton outside of school.
