I am teaching a class that is mixed focusing on the special education students' support. A laptop is a necessity for me to track my students. Since I work with different classroom teachers, I do not have my own room and so I do not have a desktop. My own old personal laptop served as my spare, but it has crashed recently. Now I must bring my laptop everywhere I go, home to school and vice-versa which is not only heavy for me but quite risky and vulnerable for such equipment.
All my life`s work is done through a computer.
I plan and create my scaffoldings, teach the class - either by group or one-on-one, hold IEP meetings with parents, contact students and parents, interact with my colleagues are among so many other responsibilities I keep track of my student’s improvement in standardized tests. Teaching one on one with a student is quite a challenge without a laptop. The problem recently is that my laptop is not charging as easy as before. I must keep it plugged while I am using it. The fact that I only have one laptop, I also must use it with my personal stuffs and so there are situations when I am using my personal email address when emailing parents, a situation that is not only unacceptable but risky as well. Due to frequent use and transport, my laptop does not work like it used to be. I am worried it might not last for the whole school year. The new laptop will help my work easier and help build a better communication between students and their families.
