After having the opportunity to learn about outdoor living, backpacking, hiking, outdoor survival, fly fishing, leave no trace, and orienteering, many of my students lack the ability to buy or rent the necessary gear. Students will be able to check out the necessary and safe gear to practice what they are learning in class, such as trip planning, map reading, meal creation, and fire making. I would like to create a way they can check out the gear for a weekend during the school year and for a week or more during the summer. This way they can practice what they are learning and maybe even find a future in this industry. I want to get the students outside more, and if this gear is available, then they will be able to really see what it is like in the safest possible environment.
